Aug 24th: I would like to give a big “thank you” to Chronic Pain Survivor for nominating me for the Sunshine Award!
Aug 26th: I would also like to thank Tersiaburger for the second nomination – I’m just adding this onto the first one as opposed to repeating it again. I’m so fortunate to have been introduced to Tersia’s blog. Her writing is beautiful, honest and undeniably captivating. Her blog offers a rare glimpse into the heart wrenching world of a parent caring for a child with severe chronic pain and illness.
This is a big deal to me – having my blog recognized at all is – let alone alongside so many other amazing bloggers. When I started writing here it was with such a profound desire to feel heard and understood – to not feel so alone. I thought that I may gain a few followers from within my family and the Marfan community – people that I know and correspond with – but I never thought that I would get this much amazing kindness and support. So, thank all of you from the bottom of my heart, for following me on my roller-coaster journey.
Here are the rules:
If you are nominated you must include the link in a blog, linking to the person/blog that nominated you.
You must answer some questions and nominate 10 fellow bloggers and link their blogs in your post.
Let the people you have nominated know that you have nominated them!
Here are the questions:
1. Who is your favourite philosopher?
When I was younger I would’ve said Aristotle, in an all-knowing tone, pretending that I actually knew what I was talking about, without mentioning that I only knew the name from it’s mention on Legally Blonde. But, through the years I’ve heard the odd comment about his misogyny and I’m honest enough on this blog to admit that I couldn’t tell you one way from the other, even if my life depended on it. So my answer, in short, is this: I have no idea.
2. What is your favourite number?
I suppose it would have to be 8, with 11 coming in close second. But I’m not too big on superstitions, I don’t believe the numbers are particularly lucky or unlucky for me.
3. What is your favourite animal?
I’ve always been extremely taken by orcas. I find them amazing, intelligent, beautiful creatures. A second favorite animal: crows. Love them. Now, my favorite individual animal? Obviously my 15 year old boss cat. We’re glued at the hip.
4. What are your facebook and twitter ?
Look to the right of the screen and you will see a link to my twitter account in the sidebar: @KatieRMichele. As for facebook, my lips are sealed.
5. What is your favourite time of day?
I like the late night and early morning. I’ve always been drawn to staying up all night and catching my sleep during the day – insomnia doesn’t help – but there’s just something I like about being awake in the midst of all the quiet.
6. What was your favourite vacation (or ‘holiday’ as we say where I’m from)?
I’ve never really been to many places. An obvious choice for me would be the Marfan conference in Portland last year. I feel so blessed to have had that experience and hope so much to be able to do it again some day. Another would be the recent Ottawa pain summit trip. Though I was so stressed the entire time about doing my speech that I’d hardly call it a vacation. We did see some beautiful things though.
7. What is your favourite physical activity?
Having Marfan Syndrome has severely shortened the list of physical activities that I enjoy and am able to safely participate in. Although I don’t miss my basketball and volleyball as much anymore sometimes my heart still aches for the feelings that I’d have during the middle of a game; the tension, the focus, the drive. Now-a-days my safe at home physical activities would be light biking and walking. Not nearly as thrilling but they suffice.
8. What is your favourite non-alcoholic drink?
9. What is your favourite flower?
I love all flowers, the more colorful they are the better.
10. What is your passion?
My passions are subject to change but the ones that have always stuck are music, writing and art.
My Ten Nominees:
To all of the bloggers that I’ve nominated below: I didn’t just randomly select the first 10 blogs that I could find. I’ve nominated each of you because your writing – your blog – has given me something, whether it be laughter, tears, understanding, courage or knowledge – and I truly thank you for it. You’re all talented, gifted people.
Tersiaburger – I know you’ve previously been nominated by someone else but I had to include you. Your words and support have been amazing and I am constantly humbled and touched by your blog.
